Hello everyone, when we started WhatGives we wanted to do something different in order to be the best and make sure that our donations go to the right person, for the right cause, and at the right time.
We utilize a “Trust Network” system at WhatGives that is based on relationships within the WhatGives community. We also utilize a “Trust Score” which will work similarly to a credit score but based on an individual’s relationship within our trust network (imagine a bevy of concentric circles showing links between individuals based on trust).
Our idea is that we all know someone that we trust and that we believe is truly doing the right thing with the money and working toward the WhatGives vision of training, education, and employment. Our goal is to be a conduit for people within our trust circles to have a place to go for assistance among the community.
So how does the scoring work?
If a person comes into WhatGives in need and they come in through someone who is within our trust network, the person in needs trust score = 100
If a person comes into WhatGives in need and they do not come through our trust network, they will be assessed by WhatGives and if approved for community funding will receive a trust score = 50
If a person is provided a financial grant and returns to WhatGives with proof that the grant was used for the intended purpose, the person’s trust score will go to 200.
If a person is provided a financial grant and does not return to WhatGives with proof that the grant was used for the intended purpose, the person’s trust score will drop to 0 and they will be ineligible for additional grants.
If a person with a 200 trust score requests a grant a second time and again shows proof of proper use, their trust score will increase to 300. If they do not, the trust score will drop to 100.
